The Sims team released a new Sims 3 update via Origin that addresses the Create-a-World bug from the last patch. Players who updated to Patch 1.69 found that their version of CAW was not working, and this patch fixes the problem.

Fair warning though, 1.69 requires you to be connected to the Origin server in order to play TS3, so if you want to stay offline, I'd recommend not patching. Apart from the ability to manually choose what EPs/SPs you want to launch without uninstalling/reinstalling, there's not a whole lot of advantages, and no changes were made to the game itself. I think it might also conflict with alternate ways to start the game without the launcher, like jonha's Any Game Starter, but I'm not sure. |

It's like asking where one can get a case of itchy skin or a toothache. But right, Patch 1.69 is delivered strictly through Origin. Those who do not use Origin, including players on Steam or the Mac version but others as well, or who don't need to install anything through Origin, can go as far as 1.67. They are both identical when it comes to actual gameplay. |

lucy kemnitzer Inventor Join Date: Oct 2005 | shota-oddball, as a person who was forced to accept the 1.69 patch, I want to seriously warn you not to do it on purpose. It adds NOTHING to your gameplay. The ONLY effect you will see is a slightly more inconvenient launching routine--you have to watch it like a hawk to make sure it doesn't drop your expansions (which is not a mere inconvenience: if you don't notice what you're doing and enter a save game without the expansions you saved it with, you could easily corrupt your game). Other than that I believe it prevents you from being able to turn off the bloat of the 'featured items' folder, meaning you sometimes have over a thousand unasked-for snapshots to clean out before you play the next time. There is nothing else going on in the patch from the players' point of view. Did you by any chance mean to say the 1.67 patch? |

I was also forced to accept the 1.69 patch, but you can still make the Featured Items folder read-only. You have to do it all over again since EA undoes any changes you made before the patch, though. |

lucy kemnitzer Inventor Join Date: Oct 2005 | IndigoMontoya, my experience is that I can indeed make the Featured Items folder read-only, but snapshots fill up in it anyway. |

IndigoMontoya Lab Assistant Join Date: Jun 2013 | That's...odd. I denied all permission to write in the folder and made it read-only, and it's always been empty. |

lucy kemnitzer Inventor Join Date: Oct 2005 | Yep, did all that, and sometimes the folder gets up to a thousand items in it from a single two-three hour session of play. But we already knew that people's games behave differently. It's not game-breaking, as I clean out extra files anyway, but it's another minor inconvenience since being saddled with 1.69. |

There's a trick that I haven't needed to try yet that's supposed to fix this. Delete the FeaturedItems folder. Make a text document (doesn't matter what's in it) and call it FeaturedItems -- with your operating system set to show extensions, use rename to remove the three letter .txt (or whatever) extension, make the document read only, and put that in your game folder. Since the game cannot create a new folder using the same name, nor can it add its junk to what is actually a document, it should give up and move on. |
