I recently discovered that Logical Adventure of the Zoombinis was released on Steam over a year ago and was quite excited to play it again. However, the numerous reports of game-breaking bugs on both the Steam discussion boards and this subreddit made me wary of purchasing it. I had a Zoombini ISO sitting around on my computer from long ago but couldn't run it on my Windows 7 computer, so I decided to look up a way to play again. This is something I've attempted a couple different times, and I finally found success, thanks to a comment on this Abandonware page. Thanks user 'ENT'!! I'm passing on the knowledge here in case someone else couldn't figure it out.

What you need first:

• An ISO of Logical Adventure of the Zoombinis (see above link)

• A modern Windows computer

Instructions (copied, changed slightly):

1. Install VMWare Player (free)

2. Download this pre-made win98 Virtual Machine and load it in VMWare Player

3. Once running Win98, on VMWare toolbar click Player Removable Devices CD/DVD settings

4. Under connection in cd/dvd settings, tick 'use ISO image file:' and select zoombinis image, click ok.

5. Go to Player Removable Devices CD/DVD and click connect

6. Install Zoombinis

7. Right click the Zoombinis executable file, choose properties, settings tab, and set color to 256 colors

8. Play!

Alternative to steps 4 and 5, you can use an image mounting software like Daemon Tools Lite to mount the ISO on your modern Windows computer and it will show up in the CD drive on the virtual machine as well. For step 6, run the CD drive on the virtual machine. This is what I did. I don't know if steps 4 and 5 in the original list still work as a result. You have to have the image mounted to play the game, a la old school gaming.
