Hello, I'm trying to install the widescreen patch for 1260 x 768, but when I click on Pharaoh, it tells me that the file smackw32.dll is missing from my computer.

You've probably not moved the modified EXE to the location where the game has been installed, so it's trying to load something that doesn't exist.
If this isn't the case, reply back.

Shukaku: You've probably not moved the modified EXE to the location where the game has been installed, so it's trying to load something that doesn't exist.
If this isn't the case, reply back. I think I figured it out. I didn't extract it to the correct game files. I have two locations for GOG games, which is what messed me up.

I just wanted to come back in and say I am not sure if there was a patch or maybe its a user/system problem, but all my animations seem to be working (guy with bow practicing outside hunting lodge, shopkeeper waiving arms around outside of bazaar etc.) in 1080p on the official GOG upload from their site. Everything seems to work great only problem is the not so bad black box under map. You must select the 1024x768 resolution in game! Simply copy and paste your desired resolution from the CLEOPATRA.7z WSGF NOT REGULAR PHARAOH!

It has a better method of selecting the right resolution, and also boat animations no longer push out from the side when they touch the edge (like in jackfuste's version), so anyone who wants the widescreen hack should use the version I've linked instead. :)

Thanks for the info!! I just tried this in 2017 and it is working great so far.
One tip: It seems like the utility did not really write a file unless I ran it as administrator. After I did that, all was well.
Has an even better solution cropped up since?

Does anyone have the original modded Pharaoh.exe file uploaded by crudelios? His (www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=14149&start=320) link no longer works (The dropbox file can no longer be found). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've downloaded the cleopatra.7z and the cleopatra.2.1.7z files, and when I extract them with 7Zip, I get a message from the unpacker that there was an error and I might need to check disk space or passwords.
Then I find a file in my install directory called cleopatra. The only thing in it is a folder called '1920_1440' that contains a pharaoh.exe. I'm presuming that the name of the folder is a resolution, and that the pharaoh.exe file is modified to that resolution.
I don't see any other resolutions or folders.
I was trying for the 1600x900 resolution.
This may all be jumping the gun, because the game keeps freezing even before I've applied a widescreen mod.
Well, I found a Pharaoh Resizer file here: http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=14149&start=330
It looks like it lets me save a 1600x900 modification to pharaoh.exe, but when I click on it, the screen goes black, then the black portion of the screen steps down in two steps until it disappears altogether and the icon is removed from my task bar -- so I'm guessing it's crashing.
It's the same thing HOMM3 did until I found an HD launcher for it.

Jayded: This isn't working for me, when I change the exe to 1920x1080 exe, the game runs & looks great but the tools panel is all screwed up & unclickable. Any ideas?
Same here. Also, other (lower resolution) .exe files does not work at all, the game is either crushing or shows a black screen.

I've installed the game on Mac using wineskin, then applied the patched widescreen exe (1440x900, I'm on 15' mid-2015 retina). The game runs and the resolution is set properly but I observe annoying visual artefacts when scrolling the screen (flickering and twitching). Does anybody have some clues how to fix that?

How you develop a village's location of buildings is extremely important because individual commands cannot be given to each worker. Instead, the people roam the streets, randomly choosing which direction to go at each intersection. For example, a bazaar should be placed near a granary so that it stays stocked with food. However, you will also want it near housing so that the people will be sure to receive food. No one wants to live near an industrial building though, and if you do place housing in an industrial area then the living conditions will be poor. So how do you get the bazaar workers to go to the housing areas? Roadblocks.

Roadblocks are essential to guiding people to where they need to go. It is very possible that people will never get food if you cannot get a bazaar worker to walk past housing. Therefore, you need to place roadblocks strategically in order to keep some workers on particular paths while not isolating others. One particular group you do not want to isolate is the firemen, since doing so may cause parts of your city to burn to the ground.

One constant reminder that you are in ancient Egypt is religion. Gods need to be kept pleased so that benefits are received rather than punishment. To please the gods players will need to build temples, shrines, and hold festivals. Get a god upset and quite a few things can go wrong. Upset Bast, Goddess of the Home, and many of your people will likely be infected with a plague. On the other hand, please Osiris, a god who controls the Nile, and your agriculture will stay strong.

Pharaoh is a great game and will keep any fan of this genre busy for many hours. The game is certainly long, and addictive enough to force you to lose track of time.

Sound: The music fits the theme of the game and sets the atmosphere. Voices are used throughout the game: menus are read completely by a narrator, cut-scenes are described by the narrator as well, and clicking on a citizen in your village will result in them speaking to you.
